Authors

Abstract

Vocational and technical education has become an indispensable programme in Nigeria, as it equips learners with the practical skills, knowledge, and appropriate attitudes needed to foster sustainable development. This paper examines entrepreneurship and vocational education as catalysts for sustainable development in Nigeria. It further discusses the subject by reviewing relevant scholarly literature, government policy documents, and reports related to education and national development, with a focus on innovation, changes in teaching methods, and supportive policy frameworks. The findings reveal that, despite the efforts of the Nigerian government to launch various initiatives aimed at improving entrepreneurship and vocational education, the educational sector still struggles with significant challenges that impede the achievement of its goals. The study emphasizes that transforming educational practices through innovative teaching methods, experiential learning, digital technologies, and competency-based training can significantly improve the contribution of entrepreneurship and vocational education to sustainable development in Nigeria. The paper concludes that the incorporation of educational elements into Nigeria's reform agenda is crucial for empowering youth, reducing unemployment, and promoting inclusive and sustainable national development. Among other recommendations, the study suggests that all levels of government should prioritize the regular review and updating of vocational and technical education curricula to align with industry needs, 21st century skills, digital competencies, and the requirements of sustainable development.
