This study investigated the impact of curriculum innovation on academic achievement of Junior Secondary School students in Social Studies in Osogbo Local Government of Osun State. The study adopted a quasi-experimental research design of pre-test, post-test control group approach. The population comprised 69,071 Junior Secondary School II (JSS II) students in public secondary schools in Osun State. A sample of 120 learners was selected from two public schools through multistage sampling techniques, with 60 learners from the first school grouped to the experimental class who were taught with innovative teaching methods such as learner-centered strategy, ICT integration, collaborative learning, and problem-based teaching and 60 learners of the second school were used as the control class who were taught social studies using traditional approach. Data were gathered using a validated Social Studies Achievement Test (SSAT), and a reliability coefficient of 0.83 was obtained using Cronbach’s Alpha. Descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation were used to analysis the research questions, while inferential statistics of t-test and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) were used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings of the study revealed that there is a significant difference in the academic achievement of learners taught with innovative teaching strategies and those exposed to traditional methods (t = 4.67, p < 0.05). The experimental class has a higher post-test mean score (M = 68.45, SD = 8.12) compared to the control (M = 56.30, SD = 7.95). ANCOVA results further affirmed that innovative teaching strategies had a statistically significant effect on learners’ academic achievement (F(1,117) = 21.38, p < 0.05). The study concludes that innovative teaching strategies significantly enhances learners’ academic performance in Social Studies. The study recommends that there should be progressive teacher training on innovative teaching strategies, availability of relevant instructional resources, and school management support for meaningful curriculum implementation in junior secondary schools in Osogbo LGA.
