Vol. 3 - 2026
The study assessed the quality of BECE Business Studies test items conducted by Borno State Ministry of Education for the year 2019-2020. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population for this study comprised of BECE in Business Studies question papers for 2019 and 2020 with a total of Eighty (80) multiple-choice items (forty for each year) and six (6) essay items (three for each year), and all were purposively sampled for the study. Two research questions were raised answered in the study. Checklist and Proforma were used for data collection. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency and percentage. According to the findings of the study, the content validity of the multiple-choice and essay questions was very low in 2019 and 2020, 31% content validity for multiple-choice items for both years while for the essay items, 6% and 10% content validity for the years 2019 and 2020 respectively. It was also discovered that the exam items for 2019 and 2020 mesured learning outcomes solely in the areas of remembering and understanding categories only. It was recommended that when developing and constructing the BECE in Business Studies test, the Education Resource Center should consult with measurement and evaluation experts. The test items should cover every course topic in the curriculum and should proportionately measure the pertinent learning outcomes for both multiple-choice and essay questions.
