Vol. 1 Issue 1 - 2024
This study investigated students’ perceived influence of technology on their achievement in Social Studies in junior secondary schools in Ife East Local Government Area of Osun State. The survey research design was used in the study. From all the public junior secondary schools in Osun State's Ife East Local Government Area, three were chosen at random. From each school, fifty SS II students were chosen at random, for a total of 150 SS II pupils. Data was gathered using the Students' Perceived Influence of Technology Questionnaire (r=0.79). The frequency count, percentage scores, mean, standard deviation, and inferential statistics of the t-test at the 0.05 level of significance were used to analyse the data. The study's results showed a weighted mean of 2.63 out of the maximum possible score of 4.00, which is higher than the typical mean of 2.50. In other words, students thought that technology had a positive impact on their social studies grades. Additionally, it showed that there was no discernible difference between the degree to which male and female perceptions of their social studies accomplishment differed (t = -.411; df=148; p>0.05). Based on the results, it was suggested that social studies teachers establish a welcoming and encouraging atmosphere that will encourage the appropriate use of technology in the classroom. Teachers of social studies should get seminars, workshops, and other in-service training on how to use technology to teach the subject from the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and other educational organisations.
