Abstract

Due to Globalization awareness and popularization of technological advancement, computer technology has penetrated into all fields of life endeavours, especially textile industry. Textile Designers need to upgrade and replace the manual and tedious process of textile designing to the computer technology to produce their end products. Computer technology continues to integrate into the textile industry and promote its developments due to rapid development of computer technology and the developmental needs of the textile industry. This paper introduced the fundamental approach and methodology used in the application of computer technology in the production of Textile Design in industrial Art in Tertiary Institutions. The nature of how textile designers execute their design manually with their hands, this traditional technique is challenging in terms of time wasting, proper documentation, efficiency and productivity. If a better and successful method can be developed to solve these problems and detect easy method of the documentation of the technique, it would be very useful for organizational knowledge management and other Textile related stakeholders to facilitate productivity among textile designers. CAD is the Computer Aided Design which facilitate human cum computer interactions that is necessary to develop textile design for suitable apparel products. The coming to light and wide spread of Information Technology represented by Computer Technology has greatly changed people’s life and production manner, especially in the traditional textile industry. The introduction and the usage of Information Technology has changed the design concept and mode of traditional textiles and promoted the brand new development of textile industry. Market competition is often determined by product competition in textile, is mainly controlled by the products’ design. Advanced Computer Technology has greatly influenced the development of the traditional textile industries, thereby making the textile industry accredited toward a new era. Therefore, the application of Computer Technology in the production of textile design in Industrial Art in Tertiary Institutions is highly necessary nowadays.
